HOUSING

While every decision of City Council requires at least 8 votes, Ald. Hawkesworth has given leadership and advocated for directions Council has given. Some of the accomplishments that have given him the most satisfaction during his tenure are:

Affordable Housing - The City of Calgary is and has been building or acquiring at least 200 units of affordable, non-market housing every year for the past 3 years. The Alberta Government provided $63M this year for Calgary to spend on affordable housing.

Additional Funding - Alberta municipalities, including Calgary are receiving additional funding from the Provincial government. A significant amount of this funding will be allocated to affordable housing in Calgary.

The Bridges - The City of Calgary is the developer of The Bridges, on the site of the former Calgary General Hospital. A number of provincial and national awards have been received for this inner city community infill development.
